Patents & designs
How many times have you heard someone, after seeing a new product, say that they came up with that idea ages ago?
If you have longed to pitch your innovative idea in front of the entrepreneurial Dragons in their infamous Den, take stock and consider how you will protect that idea.
A patent can protect your innovation so that it will be unlawful for anyone else to produce, import or sell it. Once you have developed your idea into a product, you should also consider registering it as a registered design.
A registered design protects the overall visual appearance of a product. In order to qualify as a registered design, your product must be new and have individual character. In other words, the appearance of the design must be different from the appearance of designs already known.
