Copyright is an automatic right that arises as soon as original creative work is expressed in a permanent form, e.g. a piece of software, a brochure or website, a film or painting.
Copyright confers the right to control what can and cannot be done to the material without the copyright owner’s consent. It is important to appreciate that copyright law is intended to prevent copying but does not provide exclusivity.
It does not matter if someone produces similar work to the one you have created, so long as they have not copied it.
