Obtaining a divorce in England and Wales is usually a paper process.

Almost always neither you nor your spouse will need to attend Court to explain why the marriage has broken down.

The process itself usually takes four to six months, although it can take longer to resolve financial issues.

For anything further, one of our specialists would be delighted to meet you to talk through your options and answer any questions. Please contact us at any time.

How we can help you

Our dedicated team of divorce lawyers can help with all legal procedures, from taking initial instructions to issuing proceedings and obtaining Decree Absolute.

Issuing the Petition

The petition will be sent to the Court along with other documentation, including your original marriage certificate.

If you do not have your original marriage certificate, it is usually easy to obtain a copy from the local Registry Office, in the district where you got married.
